Procedure for an X-ray exam
What do I need to consider?
Please remember your referral slip, and bring any previous diagnoses and images with you, if possible.
Patients are generally requested to remove clothing from the part of the body being scanned, to remove any jewelry, and to sit or lie on the X-ray table. You will then receive a few brief instructions about how to position your body and how to breathe, then the assistant will leave the room and trigger an image.
The actual image capture takes just a few tenths of a second. In this time, you must not move and must absolutely follow the instructions of the X-ray assistant or the physician. Additional images may also be required, but the X-ray assistant will let you know in a timely manner.
